Vermont Shepherd Dairy Manager Position

 

Vermont Shepherd is a family owned and operated sheep farm and dairy located in Westminster West, Vermont. We have been in operation for over 30 years milking our flock of 200 dairy sheep and making artisanal sheep and mixed milk cheeses. We are a 200 acre farm that practices sustainability and rotational grazing with our sheep.

 

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Experienced in managing, food safety, cleaning and sanitation, and cheese / yogurt / dairy production

  • Comfortable working around people and animals

  • High energy and able to keep physically active throughout the day

  • An excellent communicator with great people skills and the ability to collaborate

  • Passionate about sustainability, farming, land stewardship, and small family farming

 

Job Type:

This is a full time position (35-40hrs a week) w/ flexibility. 

 

Duties: 

  • Oversight of all on-site dairy operations: cheese making / cheese house schedule, coordinating milk pickups, assisting with cheese making when necessary, yogurt making, fresh cheese production, oversight of cheese cave and cheese aging, working / managing farmers’ markets, etc. 

  • Working closely with farm owners and business manager for all operations and to keep the farm and dairy running smoothly. Possible product line expansion.

  • Keep up to date with latest sanitation and inspection parameters and demonstrate these and proper sanitation methods for all cheese house and cave operations to other employees

 

Requirements:

  • Driver’s license and ability to drive manual pickup trucks, reliable transportation

  • Management and cheese making experience a plus

  • Ability to speak Spanish is a plus 

  • Willing to work one weekend day / some holidays / some early mornings
